1948 Season Yearbook
A year
after Jackie Robinson's historic rookie season, the AL joined the NL in
beginning the slow process of integration, and featured an exciting pennant
race with three teams in contention to the season's final days. Even
then it took a one game playoff between Boston and Cleveland to decide the
pennant. In the NL, Boston's other big league entry had a more
convincing championship. In the fall classic, it was Cleveland's tribe
winning in six games, their last championship to date.
